Tawang Monastery
Perched at 10,000 feet in the Himalayan ranges, Tawang Monastery is the largest in India and second-largest in the world. Founded in the 17th century, it is a major center of Mahayana Buddhism and houses over 300 monks. The monastery’s massive three-storied structure includes a golden-roofed prayer hall, a huge Buddha statue, and a library with ancient scriptures.

- Warm clothes are essential—temperatures drop drastically.
- Combine visit with Tawang War Memorial and nearby Ani Gompas (nunneries).
